    About

The village of Porthgain is an idyllic spot. It has a carpark located centrally in the hamlet and is the perfect place to start a sea adventure by Kayak or on calm days a good place to paddleboard from as well. So many interesting coves to explore. This is a great place to park to walk the Pembrokeshire coastal path to one of our favourite wild beaches (Traeth Llyfn) There is also some great climbing to be had from here as well. (Penclegyr) Follow the same route towards Traeth Llyfn. If you are facing the sea standing on the left side of the harbour you will find some steep steps leading out West over the sea cliffs. Follow the coastal path for about 10 mins ignoring the right fork towards the remains of some red brick buildings. After passing the quarry on the right , follow the minor path out rightwards to the headland. For a full list of routes check out Penclegyr East in the Porthgain area in the Pembroke North climbing guide, At one time, the harbour exported slate from quarries a few miles south at Abereiddy, Trwynllwyd and Porthgain itself. Abereiddy and the quarries to the South were linked by a tramway. The harbour, still home to local fishermen, it can get very busy in the summer with recreational boaters. Porthgain also has a small bistro (The Shed Bistro) that has a take away service, situated by the quay and two art galleries, which is located in the manager’s office of the old works. The Sloop Inn does great pub food.
