Porth Ysgo (BSS)

    Wales

    About

Porth Ysgo is a small, secluded beach surrounded on either side by grassy cliffs and boulders. At high tide there isn’t a great deal there except a band of rocks. As the tide recedes there is a good size of golden sand. Access to the beach is via around 150 wooden stairs which run down the cliffside. A stream trickles down to the beach from a network of waterfalls from the cliffs above. Porth Ysgo doesn’t have a car park, but limited roadside parking is available. The beach is owned by the National Trust and is just far enough off the beaten track to rarely get busy. On either side of the beach are boulder fields. Whilst these may not be of much interest to swimmers, they are a huge draw for the bouldering and climbing community. Porth Ysgo is renowned for being one of the best bouldering destinations in Wales. There is good spread of boulder problems. Mostly non-tidal. Mats are a must, given the landings are very rocky!! Its an unlikely SUP spot unless you can carry your board down the steps. You could kayak over from Aberdaron for a wild camp overnight adventure if the weather is good.
