About
Lulworth Cove is a highly popular spot thanks to its striking pebble beach and clear blue waters.
Located on the iconic Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cove and its surrounding cliffs offer breathtaking scenery and rich geological features.
At low tide, the area reveals fascinating rock pools filled with marine life
Walkers are drawn to both the Cove and the surrounding countryside, with the South West Coast Path national trail providing a scenic route to reach it on foot.
The Cove has a selection of eateries and a large pay-and-display car park. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Centre next to the car park for helpful information about the area and the Jurassic Coast. Toilets and baby changing facilities are available at the Visitor Centre, with additional accessible toilets located along the road from the Centre to the Cove.
Just a short walk away are other well-known landmarks like Stair Hole and Durdle Door. Stair Hole is said to have inspired the setting for Enid Blyton’s The Rubadub Mystery. This stretch of coastline is ideal for spotting natural formations such as blow holes, caves, arches, and coves.
Beach Type: Pebble beach within a sheltered cove.
Safety: Swimming is generally safe due to the shelter, but conditions may vary with the weather. Avoid sitting close to the cliffs due to the risk of rockfalls.
Lifeguards: There are no lifeguards on duty.
Toilets: Free facilities are available at the Visitor Centre and near the Cove.
Accessibility: Accessible parking and toilets are provided near the Visitor Centre and closer to the Cove. The beach is reached via a gently sloping, wide path and slipway. While there is no beach matting, an all-terrain Tramper mobility scooter is available to hire, allowing access to viewpoints over Lulworth Cove and Stair Hole.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome year-round on the left side of the slipway. Please clean up after your pet.
CLIMBING @Lulworth Cove is home to some of the earliest recorded traditional routes in Dorset. In recent times a collection of hard sport routes have been added at Stair Hole, including the famous Mark of the Beast (F7b+). Nowadays Stair Hole is known as a popular DWS venue.
Dive Location Features
Lulworth Cove is an ideal place to dive for new divers looking to gain their first experience of diving in the sea. The beach can be driven to before 10 am to drop off dive kit and then you can take your vehicle to the large car park. Parking is payable upon exiting. You can drive back down to the beach after 6pm to pick kit up. If you want to leave before that the only option is to carry the kit up the hill to the car park. We strongly advise bring a trolley of some kind to ease that journey. â¦
