Derby

    Tasmania, Australia

    About

Derby was once a thriving mining town, with what rumour says, was the richest tin mine in the world!! to this day it is one of of the last remaining wilderness areas, Derby is now home to one of the world's premier mountain bike trail networks located in Tasmania. Encompassing 125km of purpose built mountain bike trails with options to suit all skill levels. WHEN TO GO The Derby trail network is open 365 days a year, maintained daily to ensure a premium experience all year round. An annual winter closure affects Blue Tier and Big Chook only. These trails are closed for the majority of July and August but remain open at all other times throughout the year. Derby's hot tip: April to mid-June and September to mid-November are when the trails are in peak riding condition. DO I HAVE TO PAY TO RIDE? There is no park passes or cost to ride the trails, the Derby trails are free to ride all year. If you would like to support the maintenance of the trails, annual supporter packages are available with all contributions going directly to the ongoing trail maintenance. WHERE TO EAT? There are plenty of options to recharge after a day of riding at Derby including a providore at the old General Store and a range of pubs and cafes available with options to suit every budget. We recommend stocking up at the Woolworths or IGA in Scottsdale or the IGA at Branxholm as there is only The General Store in Derby which stocks basic supplies.
